Specimen Collection

Cervical swab collected from the cervical canal. Swab should be replaced in its pouch after sampling and delivered on the same day.

Male urethral swab should be collected 2 hours post urination. Swab should be replaced in its pouch after sampling and delivered on the same day.

Urine from both males and females, preferably first morning urine or else the patient has to be instructed not to urinate for 2 hours prior to sample collection.
Specimens must be delivered as soon as possible to the laboratory or can be kept refrigerated prior to delivery.
Testing by conventional or Real-Time PCR is offered for a number of sexually transmitted diseases. Testing is performed for three of the most common infections:
• Chlamydia trachomatis - Real Time PCR
• Neisseria gonorrhoeae - Real Time PCR
• Herpes Simplex Virus type II - Conventional PCR
